Zu einem einfacheren Leben gehört auch, sich von Großkonzernen unabhängiger zu machen. Angebote wie Softwares, aber auch soziale Netzwerke wie Facebook oder WhatsApp werden von großen Firmen nie aus reiner Menschenfreundlichkeit angeboten, sondern ausschließlich, um damit Geld zu verdienen. Wenn nicht durch den Verkauf beispielsweise der Software, dann auf jeden Fall durch den Verkauf unserer Daten. Man kann sich jedoch unabhängiger davon machen, da es sehr viele Möglichkeiten gibt, Open Source Angebote zu nutzen. In diesem Beitrag zeige ich euch Open Source Möglichkeiten, die es gibt und warum man das nutzen sollte.
Was bedeutet Open Source?
Eine Software oder App besteht aus einem Quellcode, der quasi hinter dem Programm steht. Der/die Entwicklerin legt hier fest, wie das Programm aussieht, was es kann und auch was es nicht kann. Bei WhatsApp zum Beispiel ist dieser Quellcode nicht öffentlich zugänglich, d.h. niemand hat Einsicht darin, was die App genau mit unseren Daten macht. Bei einem Open Source Programm ist das nicht der Fall. Jede/r hat Zugriff auf den Quellcode, kann ihn einsehen und sogar verändern. Ein weiterer wichtiger Punkt ist, dass das Programm beliebig verbreitet und kopiert werden kann und darf.
1. Free your Android
Android ist vom Prinzip her ein freies, von Google entwickeltes Betriebssystem für Smartphones. Aber auch ein Android-Handy kommt mit nicht-freier Software und Add-Ons auf den Markt, die normalerweise nicht im vollen Interesse des Nutzers arbeiten (Quelle). Die meisten Apps, die man sich zudem im Google Play Store herunterladen kann, sind nicht frei, sondern in Besitz von Firmen, die damit Geld verdienen. Entsprechend hat man auch keinen Zugriff auf Informationen, was mit unseren Daten im Endeffekt geschieht. Um Android und den Google Play Store nutzen zu können, muss man sich mit einem Google Konto anmelden und Google Zugriff auf Daten wie bspw. das Adressbuch gewähren. Bei einem freien System wird genau das nicht verlangt. Glücklicherweise gibt es inzwischen einige freie Betriebssysteme, die genauso gut wie Android funktionieren. Eine tolle Alternative, die ich selbst ausprobiert habe, ist das Lineage Betriebssystem. Es ist nicht ganz einfach zu installieren, aber mit etwas Geduld (und gegebenenfalls Hilfe) bekommt man es hin. Mehr Informationen zu Lineage und anderen Betriebssystem gibt es hier.
2. F-Droid – der freie App Store
F-Droid funktioniert sowohl auf alternativen Betriebssystemen als auch auf Android. Wer also kein neues Betriebssystem installieren möchte, kann sich auf dem Smartphone den App Store F-Droid installieren. Er wurde von einer gemeinnützigen Organisation entwickelt. Er setzt, im Gegensatz zum Google Play Store und anderen, keine Registrierung voraus und es stehen nur freie Apps zum Download bereit (WhatsApp und Facebook entsprechend nicht). 3. Ubuntu – weg von Microsoft und Apple
Ubunu ist ein Betriebssystem, das sich auf Laptops und PC installieren lässt, die momentan mit Apple oder Windows laufen. Auch dieses Betriebssystem ist natürlich kostenlos und die Installation verhältnismäßig leicht. Für Ubuntu gibt es eine Vielzahl an unterschiedlichen Apps und wichtige (freie) Softwares laufen darunter natürlich auch. Wie Ubuntu genau funktioniert und vor allem wie ansprechend es aussieht, kann man hier sehen.
4. OpenStreetMap – die Alternative zu Google Maps
OpenStreetMap ist eine digitale Karte, die tausende von Menschen aus der ganzen Welt kontinuierlich vervollständigen. Sie wird nicht nur für die zivile Nutzung, d.h. Navigation von A nach B genutzt sondern auch von Organisationen in Katastrophenfällen. Dadurch, dass keine kommerziellen Interessen dahinterstecken, werden auch Gegenden kariert, in denen mit Daten kein Geld zu verdienen ist – zum Beispiel Gegenden, die besonders häufig von Naturkatastrophen oder Kriegen gebeutelt sind. Organisationen wie das Rote Kreuz nutzen diese Karte dann, um Orte und Menschen zu finden, die mit Google Maps einfach nicht auffindbar wären. Jede/r kann übrigens dazu beitragen, OpenStreetMap mit Informationen zu füllen, Programmierkenntnisse sind dafür nicht notwendig. Mehr Infos dazu gibt es hier.
5. Freifunk – freie Kommunikation in digitalen Datennetzen
Im Freifunknetz stellen weltweit Menschen ihren Internetzugang der Allgemeinheit zur Verfügung – natürlich nicht den des Internetproviders wie O2 oder Vodafone. Für ein Freifunknetz wird eine Software auf einen Router gespielt, der das eigene Internetsignal dann öffentlich zugänglich macht. Dabei entstehen keine Kosten, da Freifunk eben Open Source ist und auch kein Risiko, da die Störerhaftung in Deutschland seit 2017 aufgehoben ist und im Freifunknetz Daten generell nicht auf einen einzelnen Router zurückverfolgt werden können. Das große Ziel von Freifunk ist, die Macht der kommerziellen Kommunikationsanbieter zu reduzieren. Neben dem kostenfreien Internetzugang spielt aber auch die Kommunikation zwischen den Nutzer*innen eine große Rolle. „Durch die Vernetzung ganzer Stadtteile, Dörfer und Regionen wollen wir der digitalen Spaltung entgegenwirken und freie, unabhängige Netzwerkstrukturen aufbauen, in denen zum Beispiel lizenzfreies Community-Radio, die Übertragung lokaler Events, private Tauschbörsen und die gemeinsame Nutzung eines Internetzugangs möglich werden“ (Quelle). Wer sich dafür begeistern kann, findet hier mehr Informationen.
6. Open Office und Libre Office
Microsoft Office ist ein verdammt teures Programm. Studierende haben die Möglichkeit, über die Uni kostengünstig an das Programm zu kommen, ansonsten muss man dafür ein halbes Vermögen bezahlen. Glücklicherweise gibt es hierfür auch schon Alternativen, nämlich Open Office und Libre Office, das als die modernere der beiden Varianten gilt. Beide sind freie Office-Pakate und bieten neben vielen anderen Programmen auch die üblichen wie Word, Excel und Powerpoint an. Zugegebenermaßen finde ich persönlich Microsoft Office leichter zu bedienen, jedoch denke ich auch, dass der freie Zugang und der entsprechende Schutz der eigenen Daten es wert sein kann, einen Qualitätsverlust in Kauf zu nehmen.
7. Freie Browser-Alternativen zu Safari, Internet Explorer und Co.
Auch mit Internetbrowsern lässt sich viel Geld verdienen. Diesen Hahn kann man großen Konzernen aber ebenfalls selbst zudrehen. Alternativen dafür sind Mozilla Firefox, den viele wahrscheinlich schon nutzen, Waterfox, der insbesondere kein Tracking erlaubt, oder für mobile Geräte DuckDuckGo. Neben diesen dreien gibt es noch viele andere. Welchen man bevorzugt muss man mit der Zeit selbst herausfinden.
8. Alternativen zu WhatsApp
WhatsApp gehört seit einiger Zeit nun Facebook. Zwar sind unsere Chats dort Ende-zu-Ende verschlüsselt, d.h. niemand Drittes hat Zugriff auf die Inhalte der Chats, trotzdem hat aber WhatsApp Zugang zu unseren Kontakten, Bildergalerie, der Kamera usw. und verdient mit diesen Daten Geld. Wer das nicht möchte, hat unterschiedliche Möglichkeiten. Da wäre an kostenlosen Alternativen zum einen Telegram, das inzwischen 200 Millionen Menschen weltweit täglich nutzen, Signal oder Kontalk. Hier gilt, wie auch bei allen Open Source Softwares: Wer Alternativen zu den kommerziellen Varianten nutzt, die kommerziellen aber nicht deinstalliert, nutzt diese zwar weniger, gibt ihnen aber weiterhin Zugriff auf die eigenen Daten.
Ich könnte diese Liste jetzt noch (fast) unendlich weiterführen, mache hier aber einen Punkt, da das die meiner Meinung und Kenntnis nach wichtigsten und auch praktikabelsten freien Softwares für den Alltag sind. Ich bin auch sicher, dass ich einige nicht erwähnt habe, die ich selbst nicht kenne. Deshalb wäre ich dankbar für Hinweise in den Kommentaren unten, wenn du noch einen tollen Tipp hast!
In diesem Sinne hoffe ich, dass dieser Artikel eine Inspiration für dich ist, den Großkonzernen langsam aber sicher den (Geld-)Hahn zuzudrehen und wieder Herr oder Frau über die eigenen Daten zu werden.

Ubuntu wartet nicht alle Pakete seiner Distribution.
Es gibt diverse GNU/Linux Distributionen die deutlich besser sind. Es lohnt sich auch einmal einen Blick auf die 3 großen BSD’s zu werfen.
